SONGS IN A DRUMMER

If you ever played the drums you’ll know that there are as much ways to do this than there are drummers.

In my own time I was fascinated about the accompaniment my brain produced by itself. while rehearsing i never was alone – there was an orchestra, a swirp, a tschrrrrr, a clip, a synthmovement, horns, abstract sounds, etc. it was like playing to myself and the machine in my head always knew what it should play. awesome. (although it always made fun with me regarding the tempo: „faster peter, no i’m kidding, slower, ok peter for real, you are too slow, wow where are you running to … – not so good if you look at the job-description)

A Year ago I met Joerg Mikula because i searched for a drummer to play the brushed snare to a video i produced for an installation – part I of my series 4 interpretations on a rumba dance. He did a great job and told me, that he plans to release a drum-solo album soon. i was hooked and happy to hear the results. his approach is complete different: he intensively listens to every hit he makes, every sound he activates. he is wired to the real.

This two views were the basic push for me to work on an electronic-remix, based on Joerg’s beats and sounds.

Additionally I post here a drum-solo I recorded about 15 years ago. The interesting thing in this case is the microphone situation: it was done with binaural microphones i had in my ears while playing – so this is the sound-perspective a drummer hears while playing.

You need headphones to hear the effect of the binaural microphones.
